MAKING THE CORE FOUR WORK FOR YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE
WHAT’S NEXT AFTER THE EMAC ENDS?!
Maybe the idea of not having the structure and constraints of the challenge guidelines leaves you feeling excited or feeling anxious – or a little of both! I get it!
This is why I want to share with you the idea of Structured Flexibility and how we, as Team Valeo, would love to see you thriving outside the EMAC.
The EMAC guidelines are like having training wheels on a bike – and we all need this at first when we’re being super intentional on a health journey. Then, based on your body’s reactions to these guidelines, you’ll start to adjust – making little shifts here and there to find your balance.
You may find you want to throw out some of the Core Four activities completely. Maybe avoiding gluten or only eating carbs after your workout was too far toward the ‘difficult’ level on the spectrum of easy-challenging-difficult. Maybe doing your Stress Less activity every day actually caused MORE stress. You’ll want to adjust those recommendations so that they work well for you. Your new normal could be simply reducing gluten and sticking to carbs *mostly* only after working out or doing a completely different Stress Less activity when you want to, without feeling the pressure of HAVE-TO.
You may also have noticed some things were surprisingly useful during this challenge. Maybe avoiding added sugar made you feel so much more clear-headed with stable energy and a trimmer waistline and loading your plate with veggies at breakfast actually made you kinda crave veggies all day. Or setting a goal for targeted sleeping hours was a huge help in getting you to bed ‘on time’ and waking up feeling rested. Keep doing these things! You may not be perfect at them (hint: nobody likely ever will be!) but each time you do, you earn that ‘checkmark’ toward BETTER. Or, as we like to say, (even more) awesome. And no one can take that #win away from you!
So, venture out from this challenge with the guidelines you’ve followed these 6-weeks MATCHED WITH your unique preferences, personality and physiology.
HOW DO I KNOW IF SOMETHING WORKS FOR ME OR NOT?
You’ll know something is working when your mental and physical feedback is optimal – that is, you’ve got better energy, are less hungry, cravings are sparse, your mood is more stable, your sleep is more consistently undisturbed, your workout performance and recovery are positive, bodyfat balance is more ideal and vitals/labs are improving.
These feedback flags will help you navigate your newfound “training-wheels-off freedom.” There will be times the road is smooth and easy-going and times you’ll hit some potholes. When the potholes show up, it’s ok to reach for the training wheels again to feel a little more stable and supported. It’s ok to slow down a bit. It’s ok to hop off the road and back to the safety of the EMAC sidewalk. It’s ok to take the backroad to get to your destination instead of the highway. It’s ok to live with guidelines that have some wiggle room in them aka STRUCTURED FLEXIBILITY.
Just don’t stop pedaling!
We think you’re awesome as-is and are grateful you’ve chosen to level up even higher. Thanks for being a part of this journey to explore what being (Even More) Awesome means to you. It’s been a fun ride!!
